Highway to nowhere?

Len Jacklin, Labour's by-election candidate for the Oulton Broad ward of Waveney District Council, has spoken on new government plans to allow councils to charge utility companies for highway delays. Len said:

'Yesterday the Tory Government released a scheme to make utilities and contractors pay if they overrun on highway works. This plan is almost identical to the proposal put by Cllr Sandra Gage and myself, as Labour Opposition spokespersons, to Suffolk County Council (SCC) on 17 March this year.

'The short-sighted SCC Conservative administration turned it down. They claimed it would be ineffective and was untested, despite us offering detailed evidence that 85 authorities successfully use such a scheme.

'Another perfect example of just how out of touch and inept the local Conservatives are, even their own masters in Westminster think this local Labour suggestion is right!'

Vote Len on 21 September and get your voice heard!
