Waveney Labour has been working hard to ensure that Oulton Broad gets the new health centre it needs. Labour’s candidate for the Oulton Broad by-election Len Jacklin said:
‘When the Labour Party carried out our survey recently in Oulton Broad, much concern was voiced about the waiting times for appointments since the closure of Oulton Medical Centre and transfer of over 2500 additional patients to the Bridge Road Surgery. There were also concerns about the lack of a local Health Centre and the journey that residents have to make to access enhanced medical assistance.
‘My colleague Jane Murray, councillor for the neighbouring parish of Oulton, has been campaigning about the situation since the closure in 2015. She has made representations and attended meetings at all levels to resolve this issue and put pressure on all the bodies concerned. It has been a constant battle but a successful one.
‘A bid for NHS capital funding was submitted through the Estates and Technology Transformation Fund (ETTF) to enable the planning and design of a new health centre for this area. This bid was successful and funds will be made available from April 2018 for this purpose. There is land provisionally earmarked for the provision of a health centre within the new Woods Meadow development and during spring 2018 a project team will be set up to take this forward.
‘Jane, myself and the Labour Group will be keeping a very close watch to ensure that this team is set up and do actually carry things forward!’
