The first of our winter programme of Education and Policy Circles took place at the Seagull Theatre on 28 September 2023. The topic was “How the Economy Works”.

Robin de Brea, the Policy Officer for the CLP led an interesting seminar style discussion on how the economy works and the relationship between labour and capital. Those that participated were introduced to the complexities of ‘derivatives’, taxation, and the role of government. In addition, members explored the notion of ‘fiscal responsibility’ and borrowing for investment.

The discussion inevitably turned to the economic policy of different countries and how they differed, as well as globalisation and the causes of war.
